NOTICE! Major Change for our Community

Hello graphiratis!

We're pleased to share that the Neo4j Community is about to change to a new platform designed to improve discussion, collaboration and learning.

Here's what's about to happen:

  • this site will be placed into read-only mode
  • all content and accounts will be migrated to the new platform
  • the new platform will become the new https://community.neo4j.com

A Community of Communities

The strength of this community is in each one of you. You are curious, capable, and compassionate, asking good questions and offering insightful advice. From conversation to collaboration, both personal and professional, sharing your experience and working towards mutual success. You are amazing at building relationships.

We want to support a community of communities. Pairs, groups, organizations. A better world, a better product, a better way. In the moment, again tomorrow. Common purpose, common interest. Practically with Neo4j, idealistically with graph thinking.

These forums have served us all well. We want to take the good parts and make them even better. Some of what's here doesn't fit well in a discussion format. For example projects, job listings, or events are super useful information that's a little awkward to access. We've observed, brainstormed, and debated.

After evaluating our options, including a long hard stare at the ever-tempting path of building from scratch, we've chosen a platform which will be excellent for discussion and enable us to build great new features.

Our first step is humble, simply migrating from this platform to the new one with minimal disruption. Please be patient through this period. Things may go wrong. When they do, please reach out directly to me as @abk of neo4j on Discord to let me know what's up. We've also set up a temporary #community-site channel there for feedback and problem reporting. If you're not on Discord, email me at andreas@neo4j.com, including [Neo4j Community] in the subject.

I will do my best to fix things expediently.

This thread itself should make it over in tact. I'll use this as a running report of progress. Stay tuned!

Questions, concerns? Let me know.

Always,
ABK

Update - Rollback!

We're rolling back the migration, reverting changes made this morning.

I'll provide more information here after we revise our migration plan.

Thanks Andreas, can't wait to try it!

The story continues! We've decided to migrate back from Khoros to Discourse. This site will once again become the primary community forums for Neo4j.

About a half year ago we switched from Discourse to a vendor called Khoros. We were hopeful about Khoros as a platform that we could build upon to make a great website for the community, with tight integration into Aura and the rest of the Neo4j experience. Unfortunately the roadmap for Khoros doesn't mesh well with our needs, and the forums themselves are not the best experience for technical content.

We have decided to revert the change. We will be migrating back to Discourse by the end of this month. All content and accounts will transition over. By the end of this week we should be synced up and will continue to sync until we switch over.

But, there may be issues that I haven't noticed, like content formatting that didn't translate correctly from raw html (on Khoros) to markdown (on Discourse). If anything looks amiss to you, don't hesitate to let me know as I will be diligently working through all issues.

I'll post updates in this thread as the migration progresses. Don't hesitate to reach out to me here, in DM or in email at andreas@neo4j.com for this or any reason.

Migration plan, broadly:

Migration plan, details:

The migration back is complete. All content and user accounts have been moved back to this platform.

Here is the post migration plan:

  • look for and address content or user account issues that have happened along the way
  • update navigation
  • begin a revision of the categories and tags used here to optimize for observed use :)

Please do not hesitate to DM me here or on Discord with any issues you encounter.

Best,
Andreas

Are some of the old pages still in the process of being populated back to the old platform?

I'm getting a lot " Oops! That page doesn’t exist or is private." on older posts that contain valuable discussions and cypher example.

All the content should have made it across, however the URLs are all different. I'll work on regex'ing some redirects. Could you provide me some examples of pages/urls that are expected but are not appearing?
