My friend was recently let go from where he was working. Not his fault just the current situation in the goverment. I am helping him out and introduced him to Neo4j and graph databases. He gets it..
He has some friends that are doing pretty well and would like to approach them with some ideas that he is now able to build in Neo.
Right now he is playing with Desktop V2, but really needs Neo on a real computer that can handle larger datasets and can work with Neo4j Semantics and GenAI technologies..
Who can he meet with... I searched the Neo web page but no longer see that link..
Thanks guys, just trying to help my friend and old teamate out. Thanks Guys!
Thanks Dana! Going there now.. ![]()
Our new Neo4j Startup Program just launched, and you can apply here now: Neo4j Startup Program - Graph Database & Analytics
The other form was to “stay informed”, and we’re notifying those people today that the new program is live.
Note that this is for fully-managed Neo4j Aura, and accepted startups are provided Aura credits. It doesn’t provide access to the self-managed Neo4j Enterprise Edition.
Thanks Kevin, and Crew..
So.. I can have have access to the Data Science Libraries and other things? I never used the Aura stuff so.. .. How does all this stuff work..
when you say “it doesn’t provide access to the self-managed Neo4j Enterprise Edition”. what does that mean or leave out or..
I guess I use my local neo4j desktop to do a remote connections and run my services locally.. I guess that is what we do?
And I can give access to other people and they can play around up there?
is that what we (you guys) are letting us do in this environment? is there a place to go and learn how this all works sir(s)?
Hey man.. thanks for helping me.. I am trying to get myself back on my feet..
Yes, thanks for the questions. I’ll try to answer each one below:
So.. I can have have access to the Data Science Libraries and other things? I never used the Aura stuff so.. .. How does all this stuff work..
Yes, Neo4j Aura provides access to Aura Graph Analytics. You can run a number of pre-built graph algorithms on your graph. Aura also includes tools like Query, Explore for data exploration, and Dashboards for data visualizations. Here is the official page explaining Neo4j AuraDB.
When you say 'it doesn’t provide access to the self-managed Neo4j Enterprise Edition'. what does that mean or leave out or...
“Self-managed” means that you’re responsible for the setup and administration: installing Neo4j on your own server, handling all backups, scaling, maintenance, security, and updates. We’re no longer providing this self-managed license for new applicants to the Startup Program. Instead, we’re offering access to Neo4j Aura which is a fully-managed cloud service.
I guess I use my local neo4j desktop to do a remote connections and run my services locally.. I guess that is what we do?
That's right! You can use your local Neo4j Desktop as the client to connect to your remote Neo4j Aura database. You'll simply create a "remote connection" in Neo4j Desktop using the connection details provided by Aura. This allows you to develop and run your applications on your local machine while the data is stored securely in the cloud.
And I can give access to other people and they can play around up there?
Yes, you can! Neo4j Aura has built-in user management. You can invite other people to your Aura project, assign them roles, and they will have their own secure access to the database. This makes it easy for teams to collaborate without sharing credentials.
Is there a place to go and learn how this all works?
Yes, definitely! A couple places to start:
- Neo4j Documentation: The official documentation for Neo4j Aura is a great comprehensive source. It has step-by-step guides for everything from creating your first instance to connecting applications and managing users.
- GraphAcademy: This is a great educational resource with free, self-paced online courses covering Neo4j fundamentals, the Cypher query language, and specific use cases like data science.
