APOCs not loading, missing or failing on 5.26.8

I’m having issues getting a clean start and validating/using apocs. I need to run apoc extended procedures. I have been running apoc-5.26.1-extended.jar but found I was missing some basic apoc’s hit or miss depending on what I was working on. So I have been coding around the issue using what I could from what actually loaded until recently when I discovered I can’t run CALL apoc.version() or even apoc.map.toPairs.

Troubleshooting I decided to upgrade to 5.26.8 desktop version. Which provided apoc5plus-5.26.14.jar. I still am unable to run multiple apocs but will focus on these two apocs.

Troubleshooting:

I removed all apoc and gds jars (uninstall) cleared logs, (installed apoc) started the dbms still can’t run the two calls. Removed all jars and just tried to run the apoc-5.26.1-extended.jar, as I can’t seem to find an exact extended version for 5.26.8 and it fails. I’ve reverted back to only apoc5plus-5.26.14.jar and it fails.

My conf file has

dbms.security.procedures.allowlist=apoc.*
dbms.security.procedures.unrestricted=apoc.*

My apoc file has

apoc.trigger.enabled=true
apoc.import.file.enabled=true

It does seem apoc.periodic.iterate works as do some others. I can run SHOW PROCEDURES yield name, description, signature and see apocs that loaded, but many I want are not available.

So the ask is helping to figure out what extended jar if any is needed to minimally get apoc.map.toPairs and others

From the debug I see, many of the NoClassDefFoundError which may be preventing my apocs from fulling loading with apoc5plus-5.26.14.jar?

In 5.x, you at least need the core jar first (which is present in the labs directory of your Neo4j install, you can copy that into your plugins directory), you cannot run the extended jar alone.

Alternately, when running Neo4j desktop, remove all APOC jars, refresh with Desktop, and try installing the APOC jar, and verify the version of the jar. The one you said you installed via Desktop, apoc5plus-5.26.14.jar, should work just fine.

So you can first try running with just the appropriate core jar installed, ensure that basic APOC functions and procs work (such as the apoc.version() function or the apoc.help() procedure). After verifying that, then you can also include the compatible apoc extended jar and test if its functions and procedures are working for you.

Also, please double-check in the APOC docs to make sure that you’re referencing an existing procedure. I don’t think we have an apoc.map.toPairs() (we do have an apoc.map.fromPairs(), however)

I added the core jar and it’s dependent file neo4j-jwt-addon-1.3.0.jar. I had read you need to only load 1 plugin…guess that was bad information. I’ve loaded both and it seems like I have minimally what I need or at least a work around for now. Thank you for taking the time.

It’s likely you were reading information related to Neo4j 4.x, when a “full” apoc jar would contain both core and extended.

That’s no longer the case in Neo4j 5.x, where you either run with the APOC core jar alone, or both the core and extended jars if you need any of the APOC extended features.
